I ate too much this month.
Hey everybody! I try to release most of my writing for free. And I’m able to do that because some people have decided to become paid subscribers (the real MVPs). Paid subscribers get to access the full archive (even the free stuff gets locked up eventually), comment on every piece with a bunch of dope people, and see exclusive content. One of the cool parts about going with a hybrid publisher like Lake Drive Books is that I’ve gotten to put my fingerprints on a lot more of this production process than a traditional publisher typically allows. The cover of the book? My wife and I dreamed that up together. The publisher and designer helped with the backups that I shared earlier. And they had to do that because what we dreamed up seemed so unorthodox it might not even work.
But I like stuff that looks dope. We ended up with dope lookin stuff. I ain’t even dream that crown up. The designer came up with that part. Because when you set dope stuff in motion it only gets doper. I felt bad relegating that level of dope to just the cover of a book, so now we can wear it, drink from it, and even put it on our walls. I like that.

This week, I wrapped up my third season of The New Living Treyslation. We spent 19 episodes chasing the idea of love as an act of liberation throughout the pages of scripture. You can find it wherever you get your podcasts, but the season finale should be right here.
Substack is getting better every day.
I’m a child of the digital age. And if it wasn’t for Twitter (I’m never calling it X), I don’t really think anyone who didn’t know me in person would be checkin’ for me. But that platform STINKS now. Facebook is actually a good platform for writers, but I’m always gonna think of your super loud & wrong uncles committing all of their free time to making sure next Thanksgiving is gonna be awkward when I think of Facebook. Instagram is cool too, but I’m a words guy. They did something cool with Threads, but people are still trying to figure that out. TikTok makes me feel like the oldest 33-year-old on the planet.
I’m on all of those platforms and more, but none of them get me excited quite like Substack. It’s such a cool place to be. Writers just… writing! I haven’t encountered a single troll here! And if/when I do… I’m gonna make ‘em pay to talk to me when I put the comments behind a paywall. It’s so wonderful! Also, they’ve developed some really cool mechanisms for recommending other writers, so give me a quick moment to shout out some other Substacks you should check out:

Awhile back, my friend
asked me if I’d be interested in a daily devotional from him. After a few months of him hitting my inbox with daily bread, I asked if he’d ever considered bringing it to Substack. He asked me why in the world he’d wanna do a thing like that. But eventually he relented, and now we can all check out!
